Proudly serving the residents of Harper Woods since 1955.
FRIEND US ON FACEBOOK!!!! http://www.facebook.com/hwfirefighterparamedics FRIEND US ON FACEBOOK!!!! Time for an update!!!! Our 2011 Fill the Boot Campaign went very well. We collected a total of $2,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association to benefit children with Muscular Dystrophy. As some of you may have already read in the Advertiser Times paper, this is a very big deal for our Local because we know of several families in Harper Woods who utilize the services of MDA to help their children who are afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy. Thank you to all who donated. NEW BUSINESS: We will be holding our annual Bowling Fundraiser on October 28th at 9pm, at Total Sports in Harrison Township. Although this even has traditionally benefited our Local, we will be benefiting the proceeds of this years event to The Great Lakes Burn Camp. Please, either contact us on here via our side bar for "contact us", or contact us via our facebook page. The actual event invitation can be found at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=137384163018731 Again, for our most frequent updates, please, friend us on FACEBOOK. http://www.facebook.com/hwfirefighterparamedics

NO to combined fire/ems and police specialties
Posted
On: Jun 17, 2011 (14:22:04)
We applaud the residents of Harper Woods for voting No on PSO. They recognized the distinct and very different roles that police officers and firefighter-paramedics play in our community and took action. This was never a police versus fire/ems issue, rather, it was an issue that asked residents to take concessions in their services before administrators and workers took concessions. The absentee voters, as well as every voting precinct in Harper Woods resounded to the City's elected leaders as they did in the 1970s and in 1994, that they value their police and their firefighter-paramedics, and they value them to be specialized, separate, and strong. The residents of Harper Woods this time were also joined by the residents of Jackson, MI, as the City of Jackson had a similar ballot initiative that their voters turned down as well. Thanks to the residents support, the Harper Woods Fire/EMS Department will continue to provide fire suppression, emergency medical care, and hazardous materials response throughout the community. We are hopeful moving forward that leaders will consider ways to be fiscally responsible while preserving vital fire/EMS protection services and police protection services.

The Harper Woods Firefighters Local 1188 would like to thank the Dedicated St. Clair Shores and Eastpointe Firefighters for their years of assisting us in our time of need on medical and fire mutual aid calls. We understand in the very very near future the City Councils of those cities will vote to stop assisting us due to our limited manpower Read More...
